mission statement
For the benefit of artists, consumers of art, and stakeholders of the live-theater industry, Artists For Economic Transparency (AFECT) aims to:
1. educate stakeholders about the inner workings of the theater industry to encourage financial accountability and transparency for industry leaders;
2. promote public discussion of how the theater industry’s organizational and financial structures uphold institutional biases, with a focus on their impacts on historically marginalized communities;
3. empower and promote the creation of grassroots solutions to encourage equity, diversity and inclusion in the theater industry;
4. encourage consumers to make informed decisions regarding where they spend their money; and
5. empower artists to negotiate and advocate for best-practices in their labor environment and enable them to make informed decisions regarding who they associate with.
VISION Statement
A live-theater industry equipped with tools to aid in the eradication of systemic discrimination in all aspects of its operations.
